The Formative
Urban Land Institue
Columbus District Council

Central Ohio developers, architects, and community leaders have
come together to form the Columbus District Council of the Urban
Land Institute in order to create a venue to discuss issues impacting
Columbus and the real estate and development industry. Jonathan
Barnes is Co-Chair of the Programming and Events Committee with
Ian Harrison.

The inaugural event was held in January at the Athletic Club with
resounding success. Over 150 current and potential ULI members
attended to showcase the 8 on the Square project moderated by
Bill Riatt and sponsored by Casto. In March the group met to parti-
cipate in a panel discussion of infill development in Columbus, including
architect Frank Elmer of Lincoln Street Studio. The next event will be
held in September to discuss Transit and Transit-Oriented Development
in Columbus and to unveil the winners of the Columbus Re-Wired
transit design international competition.

Throughout the year the Columbus District Council will schedule
a number of informal events to provide opportunities to discuss
current topics of interest, visit new building projects and to network
with the Columbus development community. The first networking
event took place in March at the AIA award-winning 225 N. Fourth
Lofts and was sponsored by DeVere, LLC. This event provided
attendees the opportunity to tour a successful infill project (another
JBAD project), as well as a cool place to network. Another networking
event took place in May at the Harrison Park development, hosted by
Wagenbrenner Co’s. Stay tuned for more.
