JBAD Honored at the 2008 AIA Ohio Awards Ceremony for the Brunson Building Lofts
AIA Ohio recently recognized ten outstanding projects for this year’s Ohio Design Awards Competition. Receiving the award for Newly Completed Buildings, Additions, Remodelings, Renovations and Restorations was the Brunson Building in Columbus, Ohio designed
by Jonathan Barnes Architecture and Design. JBAD attended the AIA
Ohio 2008 Honor Awards event on October 3rd to accept the award. The Brunson Building was the only commercial project to receive an honor award that was not in the historic preservation, interiors or
unbuilt category. The awards reception was held in the amazing new Akron Art Museum Addition designed by the renowned Viennese architect Wolf Prix and followed an introductory presentation by
well-known modernist Charles Gwathmey. Gwathmey expressed admiration for the Brunson project – and that’s saying a lot, coming from one of the “New York Five”, the much lauded and accomplished group of modern architects who came into the spotlight (and stayed)
in the late 60’s/early70’s. Jonathan, Laurie Gunzelman and Jeremy Little accepted the award onstage at the Akron Public Library, a
Gwathmey building. This is the second award for the Brunson, following a 2007 American Architecture Award.
