Stolarczyk Residence and Pistacia Vera Pastry Kitchen Completed
JBAD continues to make a mark on Columbus with two recently completed projects: Pistacia Vera Pastry Kitchen and Michael and Pamela Stolarczyk’s home.
Pistacia Vera
When the owners of Pistacia Vera decided to move their sweet shop
from the Short North to German Village they chose JBAD to renovate a 120 year old house into a new artisan pastry kitchen and retail/
display area. The shell of the building was preserved while the original structure
was dramatically altered, including the removal of most of the second
floor to create an open two-storey space and mezzanine. A limited but
rich materials palette expresses the simple and authentic, but sophisticated, tastes of the owners and their merchandise. The renovation
strikes a balance between the historic and the new, main- taining the
patina of the original building and creating a modern, mini- malist and
clean interior environment.

Stolarczyk Residence
Michael and Pamela Stolarczyk’s 1960’s era International Style house was an anomaly in their suburban neighborhood, so when they called on JBAD to design an addition they were faced with a choice of creating
contrast or continuation with the original structure. Since the original architecture had endurance and relevance, the addition was designed to create a subtle and seamless continuity with the house as a right-angle wing framing the rear yard and main entry. The new wing holds two kids’ bedrooms and a bath, organized along a corridor that connects and aligns with the house’s existing circulation. Efficiency and minimalism guided the design and reinforced the relevance and value of the classic modern architecture for a 21st century, design- conscious family.
