JBAD Receives “Honorable Mention” for Original Design
A competition launched by the Fairfax Renaissance Developmenet
Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio, elicited creative housing solutions for
the redevelopment of a 3.3 acre site in the neighborhood of Fairfax.
The goal was to create an integral activity zone in a low-income
housing area to meet the social and specific needs of the grandparent-
grandchild "family unit".
JBAD responded to this unique challenge by proposing the use of
prefabricated metal storage modules for use as habitable space (think
shipping containers, or ISBU's if you wan to be technical). The cost-
effective and sustainable concept enlists the use of ISBU's as the
basic structure around which the new housing units would be built.
The innovative design was awarded and Honorable Mention from the
competition jury.
